Benzamycin


Gel
Chemical Name: ERYTHROMYCIN (eh-rith-roe-MYE-sin) and BENZOYL PEROXIDE (BEN-zoe-ill per-OX-ide)

Common uses
This medicine is an antibiotic and a drying agent combination used to treat acne.

Before using
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking astemizole or terfenadine. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions or allergies. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE, thoroughly wash, rinse with warm water, and gently dry your skin. Apply and rub in a thin film of medicine to the affected skin and the surrounding area. STORE THIS MEDICINE in the refrigerator in a tightly closed container. Do not freeze. Discard unused medicine after 3 months. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Cautions
ONCE YOU BEGIN USING THIS MEDICINE, it may take 3 to 8 weeks before you begin to see improvement. If your symptoms do not improve by 12 weeks or if they become worse, check with your doctor. WHILE YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE, use only water-based cosmetics. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER MEDICINES OR SPECIAL CLEANSERS on your skin unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. AVOID GETTING THIS MEDICINE in your eyes or on the inside of your nose or mouth. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE on irritated skin or skin with open wounds. THIS MEDICINE MAY BLEACH your hair or colored fabric. Avoid getting this medicine in your hair or on your clothes. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include dryness of skin; mild burning; or a feeling of warmth after application. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience severe peeling or redness; swelling; or a skin rash. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.

Additional information
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
