Solution
Chemical Name: INTERFERON BETA 1b (in-ter-FEER-on BAY-tah)

Common uses
This medicine is an interferon used to treat relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.

Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE COMES with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor or nurse any questions that you may have before using this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), away from heat and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) is permitted. Once prepared, if a dose is not used right away, it should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 3 hours. Avoid freezing. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as you remember. Your next injection should be scheduled about 48 hours later. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Cautions
SOME PATIENTS BECOME depressed or suicidal while taking this medicine. If you begin to feel depressed or suicidal, contact your doctor. THIS MEDICINE COMMONLY CAUSES flu-like symptoms. Using this medicine at night may lessen these symptoms. YOU MAY EXPERIENCE REDNESS, PAIN, SWELLING, OR IRRITATION at the injection site. Ask your doctor for suggestions so that you do not use the same injection site repeatedly. Do not make an injection into skin that is tender, red, or hard. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include muscle pain; headache; fever, chills, or flu-like symptoms; or sweating. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience muscle weakness; changes in menstrual period; difficulty breathing; an irregular heartbeat; redness, pain, swelling, or irritation at the injection site; depressed feeling or thoughts of suicide; or symptoms of infection such as fever, chills, or sore throat. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Additional information
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
